I wake up wanting to do one thing, and my attention get’s completely diverted. I have so many business related things right now to do, but all I can think about is creating this photo contest for Android. It’s like my wife would say, “I have the attention span of a fruit fly.”
A Facebook status tipped me off to a photo contest being held by a company called Adorama. When you visit the contest link, and after reading the first line I realized something had to be done here. Below is the link to the contest, and a few lines quoted from their site.
“Apple’s iPhone is rewriting the rules of mobile imaging.”
“…recognizes the power and innovation that the iPhone is contributing to the world of photography.”
I don’t have a candid or smart remark for that; Android users know this isn’t the case these anymore these days.
An Android device can create just as good of photos as the iPhone can; it’s up to the photographer to make it so. In the photography industry all photographers know that it’s the photographer that makes the image, and not the tool being used. For a photography vendor to be promoting the tool instead of the photographer is the one of the reasons behind wanting to do this contest.
So…I’m doing something about it.

First, I want to have a developer create a QUALITY and professional camera app for Android. SnapPhoto is one of my favorites, but the app is not “professional” in my opinion. If you are a developer of apps for Android then I NEED YOU! PLEASE contact me. Don’t get me wrong; I can invest in someones time for this to start a new one, or improve an existing one.
Second, I’m creating a photo contest JUST for Android users that this would hopefully be linked to. This won’t be a small contest either, and not some “hey we got a hundred votes” type of thing. I’m bringing in some help from some of my friends in the industry, and hopefully we can get a few companies to offer some sweet swag. Since I have mad skills in web design, I’m starting on the site now. As of writing this I don’t know the name, and don’t know whether to put it on a flash site or wordpress site, but it’s going to happen and the wheels have started turning. If you have any ideas sound off the comments.
I’ve attached a few of my favorites all taken with the first generation Android device; the Dream/G1. I sport a Nexus One these days, and a new site is being created JUST for my personal favorites. All of these pictures are SOOP (straight out of phone) and only resized for the web.
*01.17.10 Edit* Adorama says on their behalf “the contest has been set in conjunction with Apple; we aren’t currently an Android stockist.”
This is of course very understandable. I hope to reach to Adorama to see if they will support/sponsor an Android based photo contest.
