Today was a pretty freaking exciting day; my Nexus One came in the mail. Never in my life have I paid $400 for a phone, but after a day of playing with it I have no regrets. There are a few things that bother me…well…actually only one thing. Too many apps run in memory. Using Advanced Task Killer I found 13+ apps running at once. Others are reporting 31+ apps running at once. I know that Android will automatically kill tasks when it needs memory, but my thing is this; I don’t want an app open unless I want to use it.
Now I am still waiting for a response from the developer of this app. I am hoping that it’s giving a false report with Android 2.1 (which by the way all of my apps run great with no force closes).
Here’s a video of what I am talking about. Before you watch, please note one thing; I move very fast in everything I do. I move fast on my computer, my computer it self is a quad core rig so it can keep up with me, and I expect a $500 phone to do the same. Note minute marks 2:48, 3:32, and 3:39 at which point I have to kill the tasks to not cause that 1/2 second “shutter.” Now don’t get me wrong….I freaking love this phone, but that is a little irritating.
Probably one thing a little more irritating besides the running apps issue, is the issue of the Polar Cap Live Wallpaper force closing on everyone. WHY on earth would you ship a phone with a feature that force closes? This is beyond me, and IMO the Live Wallpapers is sweet, but maybe a bit too much. It’s using that processor because it’s there IMO.
The gallery…freaking sweet man. The music player has been revised a bit so it’s nice to see a change. The screen of course is beautiful, and overall I’m pretty stoked. I just hope that issue is addressed soon.
